Dr. Val Gavito is a Distinguished Service Professor in the School of Systems & Enterprises, Stevens Institute of Technology with over forty years of engineering, technology, and operational experience in both industry and the military service. Prior to his current appointment at Stevens, he was Senior Vice President (SVP) and Chief Technology Officer at L-3 Integrated Systems Group (ISG) where he was responsible for ISG technology and engineering strategy in collaboration with division presidents.  During his career at L-3, Raytheon Company, and E-Systems, he additionally served in engineering, business development, and business area leadership positions including Senior Vice President of Technology & Strategic Development, Vice President of Engineering & Strategic Initiatives, Vice President of Advanced Programs and Business Development, Director of Advanced Programs and Technology, Director of Engineering Product Development, and Director of Surveillance Systems.  Prior to his industry career, Dr. Gavito served over twenty years as a U.S. Naval officer where he held Naval Flight Officer, Surface Warfare Officer, and Aeronautical Engineering Duty officer designations.  His naval service ranged from operational aviation and carrier ship company tours to technology management, space science, and systems engineering positions.  Dr. Gavito holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX and both Master and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA.
