Mark Weitekamp
Mark Weitekamp is a Principal Analyst with the Homeland Security Studies and Analysis Institute. He is a retired U.S. Army Chemical Officer with over 30 years experience in nuclear, biological, and chemical defense, emergency response planning and operations, and technical research and development.
Among his many assignments, Mr. Weitekamp commanded the Blue Grass Chemical Activity in Richmond, KY and led R&D for the Department of Energy in chemical and biological defense. While assigned to DOE, he fielded the Biological Aerosol Sentry and Information System (BASIS) in support of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
After retirement from the U.S. Army, Mr. Weitekamp joined Analytic Services Inc. where he continued to support homeland security efforts. He has lead several research efforts for the Department of Homeland Security, including an analysis of the National Capital Region’s notification procedures for a biological attack, the development of a national biomonitoring framework, and a national biological defense framework. In addition, he manages the Biodefense Net Assessment process, providing fresh perspectives to senior leaders on selected biological defense topics.
Mark Weitekamp is a 1981 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and has a M.S. from the Naval Postgraduate School.
