Julie L. Fortune received her Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering for the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2005. She holds a M.S.E. and B.S.E in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She also holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri. She has passed the fundamentals of engineering exam and is registered as an engineering intern (E.I.) in the state of Alabama and will sit for her P.E. in the fall of 2007. She was a Tau Beta Pi Fellow for 2002-2003.
Dr. Fortune has over 15 years of experience in science and engineering in support of both private industry and the government. As a scientist she has served on multiple project teams dealing with pharmaceutical research and development. She conducted audits and site visits for contract research organizations, wrote protocols, reports, plans of action, business cases, journal articles, and her work involved modeling drug-drug interactions and taking a systems approach to drug design, development, and production. As an engineer, she has experience in a variety of system engineering techniques, quality engineering, teaming, statistical analysis, and personnel training. She has worked with Teledyne Brown, PEO Missile and Space, PEO Aviation, Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC), NASA, and the Rotorcraft System Engineering and Simulation Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). Additionally, she is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UAH in the Industrial and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (ISEEM) department teaching introduction to engineering design, probability and statistics, and engineering economy.
