4th Annual SERC Sponsor Research Review
Saturday – November 13, 2012
Georgetown University
Washington, DC
The Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC) held the SERC Sponsor Research Review on November 13, 2012, at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. This 4th annual event followed a new format than previous years, consisting of a one-day sponsor review and a technical program in Spring 2013 linked with the Conference on Systems Engineering Research (CSER). https://www.sercuarc.org/admin/asrr/edit/6
The SSRR focused on a high-level review of key SERC research objectives, outcomes, and transition opportunities, in addition to identifying new sponsor needs and how SERC systems research can solve them. Input and feedback was sought from the SERC sponsor community. The program consisted of an afternoon session and an evening open house and poster session. Members of the Systems Engineering community attended, including sponsors, collaborators, FFRDCs, industry, and SERC doctoral fellows. In addition, time was allotted in the morning preceding the Open House to hold the SERC Government Executive Advisory Board Meeting.
The annual technical program will be integrated with the existing Conference on Systems Engineering Research (CSER) series, as the annual opportunity to link SERC collaborators together and to share research findings with the community. Founded in 2002 by Stevens Institute of Technology and the University of Southern California, the lead and principal collaborators for the SERC, CSER has become a leading event for systems engineering research. CSER 2012 took place in St. Louis, Missouri at the Missouri S&T, and CSER 2013 will be hosted by Georgia Tech, both of which are also SERC collaborators. At CSER 2012, SERC universities comprised 38% (26/68) of the accepted papers, 50% (11/22) of the session chairs, 29% (2/7) of the plenary speakers, and 25% (4/16) of the panelists. CSER 2013 is scheduled for March 19-22, 2013, in Atlanta.
This new approach to the annual review serves a multipurpose of connecting with our sponsors and communicating research progress, as well as leveraging the existing conference structure of CSER to bring together leaders in the systems community, as it has successfully done for over 10 years, and strengthening focus and participation through the addition of SERC collaborators and technical content.
