The Systems Engineering Research Center is pleased to announce a call for abstracts for the fourth annual AI4SE/SE4AI Workshop being held on 27-28 September 2023. The event will be held at George Washington University in Washington, DC. This highly anticipated event will bring together academia, government, and industry experts to explore the exciting advancements and challenges in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and systems engineering (SE). All selected abstracts and presentations must be approved for public release.

SERC and INCOSE AI4SE & SE4AI Workshop 2023
The Systems Engineering Research Center and the International Council on Systems Engineering are pleased to announce a call for abstracts for the 2023 AI4SE/SE4AI Workshop being held on 11-12 October 2023. The NDIA Systems Engineering Division will be holding the 26th Annual Systems and Mission Engineering Conference in Norfolk, VA on October 16-19, 2023. Held in co-sponsorship with the NDIA Test & Evaluation Division and the NDIA Integrated Program Management Division; the 2023 Systems and Mission Engineering conference brings together defense community members from industry, government, and academia to highlight ways for improving defense acquisition and system performance; providing an interactive forum for Program Managers, Systems Engineers, Chief Scientists, Specialty Engineers and Managers.

SERC TALKS: “How is Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory Applying Digital Engineering?”
Continuing the “Celebrating Systems Engineering Digitalization” Talk series, we are pleased to have Dr. Heidi Davidz, an Engineering Fellow in the Intelligent Systems Engineering team at ManTech International Corporation explore ‘how model governance can aid digital engineering execution’. These talks are curated and will be moderated by Tom McDermott, SERC Chief Technology Officer, Stevens Institute of Technology.

The SERC is seeking a diverse pool of future leaders in systems engineering to showcase their research to an audience of academia, government, and industry. All presenters at the SERC Doctoral Student Forum (SDSF) will be considered for the Dr. Barry Boehm Award for Doctoral Student Research Excellence that includes a monetary prize. The SDSF will be held as a hybrid event at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Washington DC - Crystal City on November 14, 2023.

Archimedes Initiative Workshop 2024
The Archimedes Initiative is an international partnership of four prominent organizations rooted in systems engineering: the Systems Engineering Research Center, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) Institute of Systems Engineering for Future Mobility, the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) Embedded Systems Innovation (ESI) Center, and the Center for Trustworthy Edge Computing Systems and Applications (TECoSA) at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden.

This talk by Myron Hecht of The Aerospace Corporation describes how MBSE (and SysML in particular) can support and enable certification, starting by identifying the potential benefits of MBSE for certification; describing specific approaches to support certification; and concluding with necessary conditions regarding MBSE capabilities within both the applicant development organization and the certification authority, establishment of ground rules, and an executable certification plan.
