2nd Annual SERC Sponsor Research Review
November 9-10, 2010
Samuel Riggs Alumni Center
University of Maryland
7801 Alumni Drive, College Park, MD
The Annual SERC Research Review (ASRR) is the once a year opportunity for the SERC community to assemble, share the previous year’s research activities and results, propose new research ideas, and strengthen collaborative ties.
The 2010 ASRR was held November 9-10 at the Samuel Riggs Alumni Center on the campus of the University of Maryland. Over 100 researchers and sponsors met to celebrate the past year’s accomplishments, review ongoing research, and consider the activities and milestones for the coming year. A panel of senior government systems engineering executives described a broad range of challenges that faced defense, transportation and the economy. Promising research areas were the subject of the SERC Research Council panel. Michael Griffin led a panel of 6 engineering school deans discussing how to strengthen the systems engineering concepts in traditional engineering curricula and improve application across engineering domains.
Objectives
The objectives of the 2nd ASRR were to:
1. Hear and discuss evolving DoD and Intelligence Community systems engineering research needs and reflect on their impact on SERC research
2. Develop recommendations from attendees on how to begin implementing the Security Systems Engineering Roadmap and the Systems Engineering Transformation Roadmap
3. Build a strong awareness among all attendees on current and recently completed SERC research projects
4. Hear a short presentation on systems engineering research capabilities from the two newest Collaborators, Purdue and Georgia Tech
5. Unveil planned 2011 SERC operational changes and discuss additional operational needs
6. Discuss how to quickly disseminate SERC research results into broad practice by government and industry and attain widespread adoption into the educational programs of Collaborator universities.
7. Discuss how to integrate systems engineering into the education of all undergraduate and graduate engineers at Collaborator universities.
