Professor Azad Madni was invited to participate at an INCOSE INSIGHTS Session in which Professor Peter Brook (Fellow, Royal Academy of Engineering), Dr. David Rousseau (past President of International Society of System Science) and Professor Michael Pennotti (Stevens Institute of Technology) were also presenters. The presentations focused on better understanding the nature of systems engineering, what distinguishes it from other engineering disciplines, and the principles and heuristics that underlie it.
Madni’s recent book, titled Transdisciplinary Systems Engineering: Exploiting Convergence in a Hyperconnected World provided much of the underpinning for the Insights Session. The presenters noted that the book made a significant contribution in this important area and is a key reference for many as well.
Professor Peter Brooks in an email noted, “We were especially pleased you could make it, given your work has been a jumping off point for much of our thinking. You could tell that, I’m sure.” Both Professor Brook and Professor Pennotti referenced Madni’s book and research in Transdisciplinary Systems Engineering. Professor Brooks noted that “subsequent conversations have raised the possibility of future collaboration between the NAE and the RAEng on this topic, an opportunity that we would very much welcome and will continue to encourage.”
