This report provides the proceedings of the first Helix Workshop, conducted 23 July 2014 at the Stevens Institute of Technology campus, located in the Reagan International Trade Center in Washington, DC. During this inaugural Workshop, the Helix team proposed a career model to guide development of senior systems engineers. This model included a taxonomy for discussing systems engineers, career paths, roles, and effectiveness.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
- Introduce the draft model for developing effective systems engineers;
- Explore the utility of the draft model for the workshop participants; and
- Develop a way ahead for maturing and piloting the draft model.
The Helix team believes that each of these objectives was met during the course of the workshop. A list of the workshop participants may be found in Appendix A and the complete agenda in Appendix B.
