New Research Task Awarded: Quantum Technologies for Armament Systems

Research task ‘ART-20: Quantum Technologies for Armament Systems’ kicked off on June 30, 2021, with Principal Investigator Dr. Yuping Huang, Stevens Institute of Technology (Stevens), leading his current team of 14 Co-Principal Investigators. This task is slated to be a two-year effort with room to double the team of researchers. The task contains seven main tasks in support of the research and development objectives in areas of quantum photonics and related technologies at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Armaments Center. The tasks are categorized as follows:

Task 1: Fast Photonic LIDAR System Development and Optimization
Task 2: Long Range Photonic LIDAR System Development
Task 3: Photonic Data Reduction for Elevated Processing Capacity and System Engineering
Task 4: Photonic AI Techniques and Systems
Task 5: Lithium Niobate based Integrated Photonics and Systems
Task 6: Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning to Support Quantum and Photonic Technologies
Task 7: Applied Quantum Science

This task will explore new opportunities enabled by the quantum photonics techniques and systems developed at Stevens, with the focus on quantum inspired classical laser beams, quantum inspired photonic computing, electron-wave gyroscopes, new 2D materials, and advanced interferometer technologies for position and navigation. Within the SERC Research Strategy, the research directly addresses the ‘Velocity and Agility’ program within the ‘Systems Engineering and Systems Management Transformation’ (SEMT) research area.
