16th Annual Conference on Systems Engineering Research (CSER 2018)
Tuesday, May 8, 2018 - Wednesday, May 9, 2018
The 16th Annual Conference on System Engineering Research (CSER) will be held on May 8-9, 2018 (date was previously April 25-26, 2018), hosted by the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. CSER offers researchers in academia, industry, and government a common forum to present, discuss, and influence systems engineering research. It provides access to forward‐looking research from across the globe, by renowned academicians as well as perspectives from senior industry and government representatives. Co‐founded by the University of Southern California and Stevens Institute of Technology in 2003, CSER has become the preeminent event for researchers in systems engineering across the globe.
Theme: Systems in Context
CALL FOR PAPERS
Paper submissions will be through EDAS system. See the flyer here.
Papers will be considered from a wide range of domains including but not limited to the grouped topics listed below, which support this year’s theme “Systems in Context”.
• Formative Methods & Requirements
• Integration, Deployment, Assurance
• Human Factors
• Safety & Security
• Systems in Society
• Optimization, Multiple Objectives, Synthesis
• Risk & Resiliency
• Collaborative Autonomy
• Coordination & Distributed Decision-Making
• Prescriptive Modeling; State Estimation
• Stochastic Approximation
• Stochastic Optimization & Control
• Sensor Management
• Design of Experiments
Papers may consist of new theoretical work, analysis of existing systems, applications of established techniques, or case studies. We will accept papers from both academia and industry. Each paper will be reviewed by at least two members of the program committee. All papers must be original work and currently not under submission to another conference or journal.
Papers are limited to 8 pages.
Submitted papers should not exceed 8 pages in length, including illustrations, and appendices with a font type no less than 10 point.
Evaluation will be based on the following:
-
-
- The paper’s scope is appropriate for systems engineering.
- The paper has an appropriate research focus and approach and is cogent.
- The paper satisfactorily explains what was done.
- The paper satisfactorily explains why it was done.
- The paper satisfactorily explains the basis for its conclusions.

SPECIAL ISSUE
The Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Board of the Springer journal Environment, Systems, & Decisions, and the organizers of CSER 2018 16th Annual Conference on System Engineering Research, announce a Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the journal that will feature top papers that are presented at CSER 2018.
Online submission: https://www.editorialmanager.com/envr/default.aspx. Please designate the “ESD Special Issue on CSER 2018 Systems Engineering in Context”.
Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts prior to May 1, 2018, though review of manuscripts begins upon submission. Accepted papers will be published online immediately after the galley proof is finalized and subsequently in the printed version of the Special Issue, which is expected in Fall 2018.
Inquiries regarding Call for Papers should be directed to the Guest Editors for the special issue:
